OSCE Parliamentary Assembly President Pia Kauma has announced the postponement of her visit to Georgia.
In a social media post, Kauma stated:
“Following discussions and after close consideration, I’ve decided to postpone visiting Georgia until a time that the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly’s engagement would be most effective. We remain ready to listen to all voices and offer assistance in implementing OSCE/ODIHR election recommendations.”
MEP Rihards Kols announced on social media that the President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly plans to visit Georgia with a delegation from January 8-10.
Meanwhile, three opposition groups addressed a letter to Pia Kauma, urging her to postpone the visit, arguing that “postponing the visit until firm commitment regarding holding new parliamentary elections and release of political prisoners is secured.”
Giorgi Gakharia also sent a letter to Pia Kauma, requesting that she reconsider the timing and purpose of her visit to Tbilisi.
