MP Zarkua: Baltic States want others to confront Russia on their behalf
“It’s not surprising. All three Baltic states have a single goal — they want another country to confront Russia on their behalf,” said Georgian Dream MP Irakli Zarkua while commenting on Lithuania’s decision to publish a list of sanctioned Georgian citizens. He said such behaviour is not new.
“It’s not surprising that the Baltic states are acting this way. All three have a common goal: they want another country to confront Russia on their behalf. For that, they’re relying on Ukraine and this country is in war. Let me tell you more—there are even Estonian officials openly stating that the war should not end, that it must continue. Why? Because if the war ends now, they might be the ones expected to fight. That alone says a lot.
As for the sanctions, I’m not surprised. We were one of the few countries that openly opposed the war. We didn’t open a second front, we didn’t impose sanctions, and we’ve consistently and boldly defended our national interests and the interests of our people. That’s what they can’t forgive us for.
They called for sanctions, while at the same time, Latvia increased its wine exports to Russia. Lithuania, for example, surpassed several countries in exporting oil products to Russia. That’s the reality of their approach.
I can’t speak for their people, but the officials in their governments clearly serve the interests of the global war lobby—those who want the war to drag on. We’re against that. That’s why they sanction us. It doesn’t change anything for us. What matters is peace in our country, protecting lives, and ensuring economic growth,” Zarkua remarked.
Lithuania released a complete list of Georgian citizens subject to its sanctions. The individuals were sanctioned at different times, and the information was made public on the official website of the Lithuanian Migration Service.
