Mayor slams Polish MPs’ call to sanction Georgian TV stations: They only want media they approve

Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze has criticized a request by three Polish MPs to impose sanctions on several Georgian television companies, calling the initiative politically motivated and lacking justification.

According to Kaladze, the request, similar to recent sanctions imposed by United Kingdom, is “devoid of arguments” and reflects political bias rather than objective reasoning.

“The attacks and threats continue. I want to emphasize once again that they do not like the truth. We only hear blackmail. For example, Britain imposed sanctions on specific TV stations, but provided no arguments. This was a political decision,” Kaladze said.

He also accused critics of applying double standards regarding media freedom.

“When it comes to freedom of speech, a double standard is introduced. They only want television that they like, that is acceptable to them. This is far from democracy,” he added.
