The United Kingdom has expanded its list of sanctions against Russia, according to the British government. The new restrictive measures target crypto and illicit financial networks that assist Russia in bypassing sanctions.

The UK government stated that, due to criticism of existing sanctions, the Kremlin is increasingly turning to dark networks and shadow financial systems to circumvent legal restrictions.

“Today’s action shows the UK is moving faster and further than ever before to clamp down on these routes and adapt its approach to stay ahead of Russian evasion tactics,” the statement said.

The government added that the sanctions list includes companies from Russia, the United Kingdom, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, the United Arab Emirates, Panama, and El Salvador.

“We are also targeting 3 Georgian companies operating Russia focused exchanges seeking to evade sanctions,” the statement said.

According to information published on the UK government website, these companies are Arvix LLC, Rapira Group LLC, and Aifory LLC. Under the sanctions, all financial assets of the three Georgia-registered companies within UK jurisdiction will be frozen.

The statement also notes that the UK has imposed sanctions on more than 3,300 individuals, businesses, and vessels linked to Russia. It adds that, due to international sanctions, Russia has lost more than $450 billion.
