Tbilisi Mayor: Four-million nation should not be lectured; We are ready for constructive dialogue

“We are ready for a dialogue, friendship and cooperation in a constructive regime. Lecturing is unacceptable,” said Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze, regarding the meeting within visa regulation scheduled for June 11 in the European Union.

According to Kaladze, the EU applies double standards toward Georgia.

“A dialogue, criticism and recommendations should be based on arguments. When the EU voices criticism over some draft-bills, questions arise regarding double standards. We see some EU member countries are adopting similar laws. If they are acceptable for them, why are not they accaptable for us? If they defend their interests, why is it impossible for a tiny country, which has a long history and rich culture, to defend its country? he said.

As for the opposition’s statements that the dialogue announced by the European Union may mean the suspension of the visa-free regime for Georgia, Kakha Kaladze noted: “We know the opposition’s motivation is to somehow harm the country. If there is something bad, they wish the country evil. They are not happy that we have peace in the country, that the country is developing, economically moving forward, etc.”
