Infrastructure Minister inspects storm damage in Baghdati municipality

Infrastructure Minister Revaz Sokhadze, together with representatives of the Ministry’s Roads Department, the United Water Supply Company and local authorities, inspected the damage caused by the recent severe weather in Baghdati Municipality and reviewed ongoing response and cleanup efforts.

Sokhadze instructed representatives of the relevant agencies to ensure the timely restoration of damaged infrastructure and the implementation of all necessary works.

According to the Minister, several dozen families were affected by the disaster.

“Infrastructure has also been damaged, and our relevant services are actively working on the ground. The Roads Department is involved in clearing both the central roads and other damaged sections. It is particularly important to assist the affected families. We visited several families on site. Debris has been washed into their yards and homes.

“We will do our utmost to assist each family so that their living environment can be cleared as quickly as possible, all debris is removed from the area, and the relevant channels and communications are cleaned to ensure the free flow of water. The local authorities are fully mobilized and will provide affected families with assistance according to their needs,” Sokhadze said.

The Minister noted that the severe weather had also damaged some completed and ongoing works being carried out as part of the water supply and wastewater infrastructure project in Baghdati.

During a meeting with the contractor, the parties identified the measures to be implemented as a first step. Damaged road sections will initially be temporarily restored to ensure uninterrupted traffic, after which the restoration of infrastructure damaged by the disaster will begin.

According to the Ministry of Infrastructure, several dozen pieces of heavy and specialized equipment mobilized by the Roads Department and the United Water Supply Company have been working continuously over the past two days to eliminate the consequences of the disaster.

Technical teams from contractor companies are also involved in the works in coordination with the relevant services. Road and street cleaning, the restoration of affected areas and other necessary rehabilitation works are underway.

The Ministry said traffic on the central highway is currently unrestricted. The mobilized equipment and relevant services will continue operating until the damaged infrastructure is fully restored.

Heavy rainfall recently caused flooding in Baghdati Municipality, affecting roads, residential yards and agricultural land.
