MEPs Kamiński and Gosiewska urge sanctions against Communications Commission and Public Broadcaster leadership

Several Members of the European Parliament call for sanctions against the Georgian television channels Imedi TV, Rustavi 2, and POSTV, as well as against the leadership of the Georgian National Communications Commission and the Georgian Public Broadcaster.

According to the proposed amendment submitted by MEPs Krzysztof Brejza and Michał Szczerba, the three television channels are accused of “spreading disinformation and anti-EU propaganda” and are described as “de facto communication arm of the Georgian Dream regime.”

The amendment calls on the European Union and its member states to “consider appropriate and proportionate restrictive measures against individuals and entities responsible for orchestrating and financing these disinformation campaigns.”

In a separate amendment, MEPs Mariusz Kamiński and Małgorzata Gosiewska call for sanctions against members of the leadership of the Georgian National Communications Commission and the Georgian Public Broadcaster, whom they accuse of “spreading deliberately misleading information and for the significant undermining of media pluralism.”
