Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze, alongside Deputy Mayor Irakli Bendeliani, inspected reconstruction works currently at the initial stage of the Sioni Church.
According to the Mayor, the roof and bell tower of the church are damaged, while rainfall is damaging the walls, posing a threat to the frescoes in the church. The project is ready, and scaffolding is being installed.
“The challenges we face today, that water is leaking and damaging the frescoes, will be fully resolved. The work will be completed by the end of October. The Tbilisi Development Fund is working; relevant representatives of the Patriarchate and specialists in the field are involved. Sioni Church is a cultural heritage monument, and all details will be paid special attention,”
The project value is 1, 220, 000 GEL. Kakha Kaladze visited the grave of the late Patriarch Ilia II. The mayor was accompanied by Protopresbyter of the Georgian Orthodox Church Giorgi Zviadadze and Head of the Tbilisi Development Fund Tamaz Alibegashvili.
