Makhashvili: Referring to State Department report, keep in mind Agency still being purged of what U.S. President calls 'Deep State'

“The effort to minimise political content in the reports is welcome. When comparing these reports to those of previous years, we can clearly see a significant reduction in the propagandistic tone,” said Georgian Dream member Levan Makhashvili.

“The report is based on opinions and perceptions, and therefore, the US should base its assessments on concrete facts as much as possible.” Makhashvili believes that “they should check with the officials and only then make the appropriate statements.”

“We are prepared for close collaboration with the United States. We are actively participating in the fight against terrorism, and these reports are about both terrorism and trafficking.

If they are prepared to make statements based on the truth and facts, we would be delighted to work with them.

We welcome the positive comments indicated in this report, particularly the Georgian state’s efforts and endeavours to examine all sorts of crimes as quickly and efficiently as feasible. However, we feel that a number of sections are based on opinions rather than facts,” Makhashvili stated.

The 2024 Human Rights Report, released by the US State Department, has a section on Georgia.
