Speaker: French ambassador's indifference led to GPB journalist becoming target of contempt
“The indifference of the French ambassador has led to a journalist from the Public Broadcaster becoming a target of contempt,” the Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili wrote on social media.
Papuashvili questioned how the ambassador would respond this time.
“A few days ago, the head of the NGO Safari, who is supported by the French ambassador, used similarly contemptuous language toward Georgia’s Foreign Minister. I publicly called on the ambassador to clarify her position, but she evaded responsibility.
As a result of this indifference, a journalist from the Public Broadcaster has now become the latest target. This is not just an emotional outburst from a radical activist; it is a deliberate effort to intimidate and silence the journalist.
We will see how the ambassador responds this time. Will she urge the person she supports to refrain from such behaviour, or will she once again choose to remain silent, thereby encouraging further contempt?” Papuashvili wrote.
