Speaker to German Ambassador: Georgia is not going to take path chosen by either Ukraine or Moldova

“This person should be explained once again that Georgia is not going to take the path chosen by either Ukraine or Moldova towards the European Union, which they tried to impose on us in 2022,” the Georgian Parliamenbt Speaker Shalva Papuashvili responded to recent remarks by the German Ambassador Peter Fischer, who stated that “Georgia has cut itself off from Ukraine and Moldova from the common path to the European Union.”

Papuashvili further claimed that Ukraine’s path toward EU integration is linked to territorial losses, while Moldova’s path is connected to the abolition of its statehood.

“Today, it is already clear to many that Ukraine’s path toward the European Union is linked to the loss of its territories (as has been stated by the German Chancellor), while Moldova’s path is associated with the abolition of its statehood and joining another state (as noted by the Moldovan President).

According to this view, there is an attempt to pressure Georgia into accepting a similar framework—treating territories as a burden and independence as an unnecessary responsibility, with the implication that only under such conditions would the path to the European Union be opened.

This is presented as a kind of “gift of the Danaans of the 21st century,” the Speaker wrote.
