Education Minister reviews infrastructure and operations at Gudauri Adventure Tourism School

The Minister of Education, Science, and Youth of Georgia, Givi Mikanadze, has visited the Adventure Tourism School in the resort town of Gudauri.
The Minister inspected the school’s infrastructure, reviewed the institution’s operations, and held a working meeting with members of the administrative staff.

According to the Ministry of Education, the meeting covered strategic priorities for vocational education, the training of qualified personnel for the adventure tourism sector, and prospects for tailoring vocational education to meet contemporary labour market demands.

Representatives of the school presented the Minister with an overview of the institution’s activities, current operational needs, and future development plans.

It was noted that, with the Ministry’s support, active work is underway to complete the development of relevant infrastructure in Svaneti by the end of the current year. This expansion will enable the college to increase student intake and make vocational education even more accessible to prospective applicants. Furthermore, plans are in place to roll out an integrated curriculum for schoolchildren, aimed at raising awareness of the profession among young people and promoting vocational pathways.

The Adventure Tourism School helps more people access vocational training in Georgia’s tourist destinations while producing qualified professionals for the adventure industry. The school offers the “Mountain Guide” vocational education programme alongside 14 professional training and retraining courses. Developed in accordance with international standards, these courses prepare specialists for high-altitude adventure tourism and other high-risk mountain occupations.

The educational process is delivered in a modern learning environment led by practising vocational instructors with years of industry experience.
The school collaborates with both local and international partners, including the International Federation of Mountain Guides Associations (IFMGA), ensuring that its vocational programmes align with global standards. Graduates of the Mountain Guide vocational programme receive an internationally recognised certificate accredited by the IFMGA.
Notably, Georgia will host one of the most prominent international events in adventure tourism this year. For the first time, Georgia will play host to the General Assembly of the International Federation of Mountain Guides Associations, an annual event held in different host nations.

Representatives from mountain guide associations across 27 leading countries will participate in the assembly.
