Speaker: No strong state without freedom, justice, rule of law, and trusted police

“It is the police officer who stands on the invisible line that protects order from chaos, peace from violence, and the law from arbitrariness. Where the police fulfill their duties with dignity, citizens live peacefully, society develops freely, and the state stands firmly on its foundations,” Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili addressed a ceremony marking Police Day.

According to the speaker, a modern state rests on three fundamental pillars — freedom, justice, and the rule of law — none of which can exist without a strong, professional police force trusted by society.

“The strength of a state begins with respect for the law. Where justice is strong, the state is strong as well. Your work serves precisely this principle. You protect not only public order, but also Georgia’s statehood, stability, and peaceful development,” Papuashvili stated.

He also highlighted the challenges facing Georgia in recent years, including regional security concerns, international instability, hybrid threats, disinformation, and radicalization, noting that such circumstances place special responsibility on law enforcement institutions and make police professionalism particularly important.

The Parliament Speaker paid tribute to police officers who lost their lives in service to the country and thanked the families of law enforcement personnel for their support and sacrifice.

“Today we remember with gratitude the heroic police officers who gave their lives in service to Georgia. Their dedication is a worthy part of our state’s history,” he said.

Papuashvili concluded by wishing police officers peace, resilience, and continued dedicated service to Georgia.
