The protest rally near the Constitutional Court in Batumi resumed at 3 p.m. and is ongoing. Participants expressed solidarity with the detainees, stating that the events of the previous day were consistent with past rallies, during which police allegedly planned provocations.
Among the 12 detainees, three have been released with written notices, while the remaining individuals are being held in pre-trial detention centres in Batumi and Ozurgeti. Most detainees face administrative charges, except Mzia Amaglobeli, founder of the media organization Batumelebi, who is accused of assaulting a police officer.
Irakli Dgebuadze, head of the Batumi Police, commented to the GPB First Channel regarding Amaglobeli’s detention.
“All detentions were carried out under the law. As for Amaglobeli, I will refrain from disclosing details, as I was directly involved in the incident. The matter is now in the hands of the judge,” he said.
Eter Turadze, editor-in-chief of Batumelebi, alleged that police orchestrated provocations and created an environment of violence that left protest participants unable to manage their actions.
