Parents of children with Duchenne muscular dystrophy hold protest
Parents of children diagnosed with Duchenne muscular dystrophy held a protest outside the government administration, demanding timely access to new medication and increased state support.
Protesters are calling on authorities to ensure the import of new treatments without delay, provide full state funding for these medications, and support research aimed at improving patient outcomes.
In addition, parents emphasized the need to establish a multidisciplinary team of doctors to better monitor and manage the condition of affected children.
Duchenne muscular dystrophy is a rare genetic disease that causes progressive muscle weakness. According to the parents, time is critical, as the condition rapidly worsens without proper treatment. Approximately 100 children in Georgia have been diagnosed with the disease.
