PM: Gia Baramidze’s statement is shameful and treasonous; inflicting insult on one’s own people is unfathomable even for UNM
“Gia Baramidze’s statement is utterly shameful and treasonous. When you inflict such an insult on your own people, your fellow citizens, and your culture, it is unfathomable even coming from a UNM member,” Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze told journalists.
The statement in question concerns remarks made by one of the leaders of the United National Movement, Gia Baramidze, who claimed that “during the war in Abkhazia, Georgian soldiers were executing prisoners of war, which is why the Abkhazian side refused to release captives.”
According to the Head of Government, this statement demands an appropriate public response.
“This is an utterly shameful, treasonous declaration. Even coming from a UNM member, it is genuinely sickening to hear such a statement when you inflict such an insult on your own people, your fellow citizens, and your culture. This is beyond the pale even for the UNM, and it unequivocally demands a robust public response. What this particular United National Movement member said is disgraceful and repulsive,” the Prime Minister declared.
