“Saboteurs and traitors are continuing their hostile activities. Georgian soldiers were first accused of committing war crimes; now their mouthpiece continues doing the same and deceiving society,” said Levan Machavariani, a member of the Georgian Dream (GD) party.

Machavariani remarked on the statement by UNM’s Giorgi Baramidze saying: “During the war in Abkhazia, Georgian military personnel shot prisoners, and for this reason, the Abkhaz side did not hand over prisoners.”

According to Machavariani, this is another attempt at sabotage.

“This won’t be a slip of the tongue on his part; I believe it is yet another attempt at sabotage. They want to show the entire world that Georgians fight using such methods. This goes beyond treason against the country. All this seems coordinated with the aim to discredit our soldiers and aggravate any issue regarding Abkhazia for Georgia.

We have to regain our territories and reconcile with our fellow brothers and sisters. Based on their calculations, such statements complicate matters. Naturally, it is logical to assume that this process is plotted, that there is an intention to derail it, and that this cannot go unresponded,” he said.
