PM Kobakhidze: Probe into Tornike Rizhvadze case launched immediately. All details must be established
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze stated that the probe into the Tornike Rizhvadze case launched “immediately,” emphasizing the importance of establishing “all details that might be connected to this incident.” “The probe will determine the rest.”
After visiting First University Clinic where Rizhvadze [former Chairman of the Adjara Government] is hospitilized, the PM said: “Every detail is important, including the details of the letter and generally, all circumstances.”
“Everything must be studied in detail. Naturally, this is a case that will receive special attention, including from me and not only from me.
I wish Tornike a speedy recovery. I am glad that the recovery process is developing in a good direction. I cannot tell you the details, but we received information from the doctors that the dynamics are positive, which makes us very happy,” the Prime Minister added.
Rizhvadze was admitted to Sagarejo Geohospital following a gunshot wound on July 7. He was subsequently transferred to the First University Clinic for specialised care. An investigation into Rizhvadze’s case has been launched under Article 115 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which pertains to incitement to suicide.
Aleksi Akhvlediani, head of the Maritime Transport Agency, was detained as a suspect in connection with the case. He was freed earlier today on a 30,000 GEL bail. Akhvlediani faces charges under Article 238 of Georgia’s Criminal Code, which concerns the illegal storage of firearms that resulted in serious consequences.
