PM Kobakhidze calls on U.S. to confront 'deep state' and take concrete action

“We hope the Trump administration will be stronger than the so-called ‘Deep State’ and will take decisive steps to weaken its influence. If that occurs, I believe the new administration will implement very specific measures, and we will be ready to respond,” Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze told journalists.

He emphasised that Georgia has made concrete proposals to the United States and is fully prepared to reset bilateral relations.

“We have presented our proposals to the American side multiple times—through direct dialogue and public statements. We are fully ready to renew our relations. We are waiting for reciprocal actions, as is the Georgian public. This message was also reiterated in my open letter. If no such steps are taken, it would indicate that the ‘deep state’ still exerts control over the administration, which would be unfortunate. Nonetheless, we remain optimistic and hopeful that the new U.S. administration will take the necessary actions, and we stand ready to respond,” Kobakhidze stated.

In response to a journalist’s question about the parliamentary statement on the MEGOBARI Act, the Prime Minister remarked: “This is a very important initiative. I’m pleased that a draft reflecting our position was introduced in Parliament. We once again affirm our readiness to reset relations. We are fully prepared for this and await the American administration’s response.”

On May 14, the Georgian Parliament adopted a statement condemning the MEGOBARI Act.
