PM Kobakhidze: We had highly constructive dialogue during U.S. delegation's visit to Georgia; shifts in approach give cause for optimism
“We had an interesting, highly constructive dialogue during our American colleagues’ visit to Georgia,” the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, told reporters.
According to the Head of Government, the key priority is establishing fair approaches to bilateral relations.
“We held interesting talks. While it is difficult to discuss the specifics of these conversations publicly, I will reiterate that we had an engaging and highly constructive dialogue during the U.S. delegation’s visit to Georgia. I would also reiterate our general approach: the most important thing is to establish fairness in our relations. What damaged our ties over recent years was precisely injustice, the unfairness of the previous administration. You remember very well what the previous administration did, how it backed radicalism, hatred, and falsehoods in our country, and how it encouraged the sabotage of state institutions. This included pushing the radical opposition to boycott their parliamentary mandates, which happened both in 2020 and after the 2024 parliamentary elections. Today, we see these approaches have changed, which gives us reason to be optimistic about rebooting our strategic partnership from a clean slate with a concrete roadmap. This remains our primary proposal to the American side,” Kobakhidze said.
