Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has met with the parents of children suffering from Duchenne muscular dystrophy. The meeting is being held at the Administration of the Government of Georgia.

Before the meeting began, parents spoke briefly to journalists gathered outside, expressing hope that the discussions would prove fruitful.

“We are walking in with enormous hope, and with an equal sense of responsibility. We have every expectation that this meeting will be productive and yield real results: that our children will finally have genuine access to all the innovative medicines approved across Europe and in many developed countries. We understand that this demands significant resources and commitment, but for our children, the most precious resource of all is time. Every day lost, every day delayed, means the disease moves one step closer,” said one of the parents, Eka Surmava.

Another parent, Kakha Tsikarishvili, told reporters that once the meeting concludes, the families will address the public together and share whether the outcome matched their expectations.

“We are prepared for this meeting, and we hope the government is equally prepared; that they come with concrete proposals regarding specific medicines and specific timelines. So yes, we are going in with hope. Once we come out, the parents will speak together, and we will tell the public frankly whether what was achieved lives up to what we came here for,” said Tsikarishvili.
