Nikoloz Samkharadze addresses ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly

Chairman of the Georgian Parliament’s Foreign Relations Committee Nikoloz Samkharadze is participating in the 16th ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) Caucus, hosted by Cambodia’s capital , Phnom Penh.

“Southeast Asia is historically, culturally and ethnically one of the richest and most diverse regions in the world; therefore, its involvement in the process of addressing global issues is of utmost importance and relevance,” Samkharadze stated during his address.

The Foreign Relations Committee chairman also highlighted the dire situation in Georgia’s occupied regions and thanked the assembly’s member countries for their firm support of Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.

Samkharadze spoke about global security challenges, Russian occupation, developments in the Black Sea region, and emphasized the necessity of adhering to international law principles to establish peace.

“We see alarming trends when some countries resort to brute force under the pretext of crisis resolution, which actually further exacerbates conflicts and international crises. The increase in the number of armed conflicts, coupled with alarming, hostile rhetoric from high-ranking politicians, poses a serious threat to global security. Georgia is ready to contribute to the implementation of peace initiatives,” Samkharadze declared.

Georgia has been an observer member of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly since 2023 and regularly participates in events held under its auspices.
