MP Samkharadze: Istanbul visit promises fruitful engagements with leaders of European parliaments and discussions on Georgia-EU relations
“Today marks the beginning of our delegation’s visit to Istanbul, where the session of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) is taking place. We intend to use this platform for meetings with parliamentary delegations from various countries,” said MP Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chairman of the Parliament’s Foreign Relations Committee.
According to Samkharadze, more than ten meetings are planned during the visit, including discussions with the chairpersons of both European and Asian parliaments.
“We aim to strengthen bilateral parliamentary relations, promote economic cooperation, and continue our policy of non-recognition. Our messages will highlight ongoing reforms and successful initiatives within Georgia. The Speaker of the Parliament will also address these topics at the Assembly. This will be a fruitful visit, characterised by engaging and productive discussions.
We will also hold discussions with the Speakers of Parliaments from Eastern countries, with particular emphasis on the ongoing conflict involving Iran and the security challenges faced not only by these nations but by the entire region.
Additionally, we will hold meetings with the Speakers of European parliaments to discuss Georgia-EU relations. There will be discussions with the Speakers of EU candidate countries, where we will exchange experiences and update each other on the progress of their accession processes.
Furthermore, we will meet with the Speakers of neighbouring countries’ parliaments, including the Chair of the Turkish Parliament.
This platform is vital, as it provides an invaluable opportunity to engage with parliamentary delegations that are otherwise difficult to meet due to geographical distances,” Samkharadze concluded.
