Levan Makhashvili: MEGOBARI Act damages bilateral relations reset

“The ‘MEGOBARI Act’ will be damaging for bilateral relations reset, it is a directly hostile act and has no value,” stated Levan Makhashvili, Chairman of the Georgian Parliament’s European Integration Committee.

According to Makhashvili, “Whether they adopt it or not will have no substantial significance, because the US President already has the right today to make those decisions that this act seemingly mandates, if desired. Therefore, the ‘MEGOBARI Act’ has no substantial importance.”

“The only thing this act does is hinder the reset of relations between the two countries. Both countries are trying to move relations into a civilized process considering common interests. In parallel, some people, including through this act and other aggressive rhetoric, are trying to damage the relations reset. Therefore, I completely agree with Georgia’s Prime Minister that the ‘MEGOBARI Act’ never had meaning or significance before, except hindering the relations reset.

This is a hostile act, it will be damaging for bilateral relations reset. Therefore, whether it’s Joe Wilson or others who are trying with great enthusiasm to push this act through to the end, if they really have an interest in resetting relations between the two countries, then they should not continue these steps,” Levan Makhashvili stated.
