Georgia's FM meets with OSCE Secretary General to discuss regional challenges

Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili met with OSCE Secretary General Feridun Sinirlioglu to discuss critical regional security issues and international cooperation.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting focused extensively on the situation in Georgia’s occupied territories.

“The Secretary-General expressed keen interest in the current circumstances and recent developments in the occupied territories,” the ministry’s statement read.

The foreign minister emphasized the importance of the Geneva International Discussions (GID) format and OSCE’s involvement in achieving a peaceful resolution based on international legal norms. The region’s security challenges and potential strategies for addressing them were also in focus.

The discussion highlighted the critical necessity of enforcing international legal principles to ensure sustainable stability and future regional development. The parties explored the organization’s significant role in resolving conflicts and maintaining peace within the OSCE framework.

They comprehensively reviewed Georgia’s collaboration with OSCE across multiple dimensions. The foreign minister underscored Georgia’s active engagement in all three organizational dimensions and reaffirmed the country’s commitment to OSCE principles. Particular emphasis was placed on the long-standing and productive cooperation with the OSCE’s Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights.

In concluding the meeting, Minister Botchorishvili invited the OSCE Secretary General to visit Georgia. Feridun Sinirlioglu, in response, declared that he would see at the first available opportunity.
