EU Integration Committee Chair: No Georgian delegation in PACE, it’s unclear what is suspended

“There is no Georgian delegation in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), so it’s unclear what exactly is being suspended,” said Levan Makhashvili, Chair of the European Integration Committee of the Georgian Parliament.

According to Makhashvili, “a lie does not become the truth even if repeated by a thousand foreigners.”

“We are witnessing the same forces and individuals—sometimes literally the same names—attacking Georgia under various pretexts. This time, it is the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. Repeating a lie, even by many, does not make it true; it remains a manipulation. We urge respect for the will of the Georgian people and ask that Georgia not be used as a pawn in geopolitical games.

The best path forward is for everyone to acknowledge the truth and the choice made by Georgian citizens during the October parliamentary elections. From our perspective, accreditation to the PACE is impossible without official representation. Whether they will unilaterally decide to involve Georgia in the future remains to be seen,” he said.

Regarding the upcoming debates on Georgia at PACE, Makhashvili noted that they will mirror earlier discussions held in the European Parliament.

“We expect the same themes and rhetoric as in January. These debates will simply continue the political messaging we have already heard in the European Parliament,” he added.
