Demonstrators rally outside Adjara Prosecutor's Office, demand release of Mzia Amaglobeli
Journalists rallied for a fourth consecutive day outside the Adjara Prosecutor’s Office, demanding the release of Mzia Amaglobeli, founder of Batumelebi and Netgazeti. Protesters chanted ‘Freedom for Mzia’ and placed stickers at the prosecutor’s office entrance.
The demonstrators are also calling for the suspension of Batumi Police Chief Irakli Dgebuadze, accusing him of violence against Amaglobeli both before and after her arrest. They insist on a thorough investigation into these allegations.
“Mzia Amaglobeli is more dangerous for this regime in prison than outside,” said journalist Irma Zoidze. “I expect her release, even if it’s not a pragmatic decision for them.”
The Court of Appeal has yet to decide on whether to review Amaglobeli’s lawyers’ lawsuit, which challenges the Batumi City Court’s decision to impose preventive detention.
