The Speaker of the Parliament, Shavla Papuashvili spoke at the annual Diaspora Forum, which is dedicated to Diaspora Day.
“We are always especially happy to meet our fellow citizens and compatriots from different parts of the world within the framework of this event,” the Speaker stated.
As Shalva Papuashvili noted, Georgian diasporas have always played the role of a bridge between Georgia and their countries of residence. According to him, they make a great contribution to raising awareness about Georgian culture, traditions, beliefs, and values, as well as to protecting national interests.
Papuashvili spoke on the importance of diaspora representatives in Georgia and how they have helped strengthen the country.
“The successful activities of our diasporas in various fields, be it business, art, or education, strengthen Georgia’s international image. Often, it is our diaspora communities who serve as the true representatives of our people and the storytellers of our history. As the Speaker of the Parliament and a citizen of Georgia, I am proud of these achievements of yours,” he stated.
He continued to state that the government will continue to protect the diaspora people and better represent them in Georgia.
“Our political team attaches great importance to maintaining strong ties with our diaspora and creating a legal framework that will better protect your rights. In this regard, the activities of the Georgian Parliament’s Committee on Diaspora and Caucasus Issues are noteworthy. Also, there are many programs and projects that support the initiatives of diaspora representatives, promote cultural and educational exchanges, and strengthen ties with our youth abroad.
It is our great desire that all Georgians, regardless of their place of residence, have the opportunity to contribute to the progress of our country,” said Shalva Papuashvili.
The Speaker highlighted the importance of maintaining national identity for fellow citizens abroad to strengthen the Georgian diaspora.
“Many events are being held in this direction, but today I will focus on the “Georgian Calligraphy” competition held by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Today’s event is taking place against the backdrop of the excellent works of the winning Sunday school students. Georgian script and Georgian calligraphy are a visual representation of our history, culture, and values” Papuashvili stated.
Finally, he announced Georgia’s Consul General in Frankfurt am Main, Giorgi Tabatadze would receive an award for his “special services to the Georgian diaspora in Germany.”
According to Papuashvili, the future of Georgia lies in the hands of its people.
“We stand ready to continue dialogue and collaboration with our diasporas, working together for a bright, peaceful, and prosperous future for Georgia. We thank each of you for your dedicated efforts on behalf of our country and wish you continued success,” said Shalva Papuashvili.
