Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili emphasised the importance of maintaining close communication with members of the Georgian diaspora and strengthening their ties to their homeland during her visit to the United States.
According to the minister, relations with the diaspora remain one of the government’s key priorities.
“Relations with the Georgian diaspora are among the top priorities of our government. Recently, we marked Diaspora Day and presented a number of new initiatives, offering projects specifically designed for members of our diaspora. These initiatives are primarily focused on promoting the teaching of the Georgian language and strengthening ties between the diaspora and their homeland.
Of course, special attention is also given to the role of the Georgian Orthodox Church within diaspora communities, as it plays a truly significant role for many Georgians living abroad. Very often, it serves as an important link to our national identity, culture, and spiritual heritage.
Meetings and communication with members of the diaspora are essential, as they help us maintain and strengthen the connection with our homeland in every way we can,” the minister said.
