Shalva Papuashvili: PACE delegation is incomplete, therefore its credentials cannot be reviewed
“When such a large assembly follows the whims of Estonians, Ukrainians, and certain other political groups and adopts resolutions attacking the Georgian people, it has lost all seriousness,” stated the Chairman of the Georgian Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili.
Papuashvili commented on a question about the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) resolutions and the debates scheduled there today.
“The core composition is the same as in the European Parliament. EU member countries have the majority, their political influence is guaranteed, and sometimes even the personnel are identical to those in the European Parliament. The attitude is accordingly similar. So nothing is surprising in such resolutions.
We’ll see the same names—the same Lithuanians, the same Estonians, the same Ukrainians—who previously tried to activate certain mechanisms against the Georgian people in the Council of Europe. In 2022, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe adopted a resolution recognizing Mikheil Saakashvili as a political prisoner and demanded his release. After such resolutions, what is there even to discuss?
When such a large assembly follows the whims of Estonians, Ukrainians, and certain other political groups and adopts resolutions attacking the Georgian people, it has lost all seriousness. So let them talk amongst themselves since they don’t want inclusive dialogue. We see that they want to shout, not dialogue. This is a new trend that we unfortunately observe from certain European groups, especially from some war activists who want to ensure their own security through others’ hands, with Ukrainian blood. So, criticism from such people confirms that we are on the right path. If such people were praising us, then our situation would be dire because we know their intentions,” Papuashvili stated.
Regarding the recognition of the credentials of the Georgian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Papuashvili said that the delegation is not complete, and therefore the issue of recognition or non-recognition of its credentials cannot be considered.
“After the January resolution that violated the sovereignty of the Georgian people, which did not consider 1.12 million Georgian citizens as human beings and violated their electoral rights, a decision was of course made. I informed the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe about this. The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe delegation is incomplete, therefore, the issue of recognizing or not recognizing its credentials cannot be considered,” stated Shalva Papuashvili.
