Polish PM considers suspending visa-free travel for several countries, including Georgia
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, speaking before a parliamentary vote of confidence in his government, declared his readiness to use all available means to amend international law in order to reduce the risk of illegal migration.
“I understand very well the implications of illegal migration for the future of Poland, Europe, and our civilization. I am absolutely committed to using all available methods to amend international law in order to minimize the risks associated with this wave of illegal migration.
We deport foreigners to their home countries almost every day. Just four days ago, we deported fifty Georgians suspected of criminal activities.
I have already addressed this issue and taken action. It requires a majority to limit or suspend visa-free travel, including with Georgia. I acknowledge that while one-third of Georgians may share our values, we must also recognize what the problem is.
It is not just about Georgia. I apologize to Georgians who may feel offended, but in general, I am a strong advocate of limiting visa-free travel from countries that – like Georgia – already do not comply with standards when it comes to authoritarian authorities, and from which migration poses a direct threat to the legal order or public order in our country or in Europe,” Tusk stated.
