Vice-Speaker: Suspending visa-free travel for Georgia requires consent of many countries

Suspending Georgia’s visa-free travel with the European Union is a complex process that requires a specific procedure and the consent of multiple member states, First Vice-Speaker of the Parliament Gia Volski said.

According to Volski, many countries would not support suspending visa liberalization for Georgia. He criticized recent demands directed at Georgia, describing them as inconsistent with EU principles.

“The first issue is the neglect of transparency, which directly contradicts the EU system. Black money should not enter the country and be spent on organizing a revolution. The rights of minorities in Georgia are protected by law. Most importantly, the issue of national identity is not something on which the EU can confront Georgia. This concerns the restriction of LGBT propaganda. The demand to recall this law is so shocking that it clearly indicates a serious political goal — to mobilize young people for the development of a revolutionary process,” Volski stated.

He added that Georgia would provide a reasoned response and legal justification to all such demands.
