UNM Chair: MEPs’ visit supports Georgians fighting for European values
“The visit of the MEPs is a gesture of support for the Georgian people, who are steadfastly fighting for European values,” said Tina Bokuchava, chairwoman of the United National Movement, in her remarks to journalists following her meeting with the MEPs.
“During our discussions, we emphasised the importance of imposing sanctions on Ivanishvili and his circle, as well as safeguarding the visa-free regime for Georgian citizens,” the UNM Chair added.
Bokuchava also highlighted her personal involvement in efforts to prevent the suspension of visa-free travel for Georgians.
“You know that I have been actively engaged in efforts to ensure that Georgian citizens are not penalised for Ivanishvili’s autocratic actions. The aim is to prevent the suspension of visa-free travel due to so-called blanket rules that would unfairly affect all citizens; these measures target only Ivanishvili, his entourage, propagandists, the financial elite, abusers, false witnesses, and so-called judges. I am pleased to report that our work in this area is bearing fruit; we are making progress, and I am hopeful that this mechanism will be implemented soon,” Bokuchava stated.
