Mikheil Saakashvili: Oligarchic regime plans 11-year sentence, ignoring political persecution is now impossible

The oligarchic regime is preparing to sentence me to 11 years in prison. Those who still refuse to recognize my imprisonment as political, perhaps now you can no longer ignore this injustice, wrote Georgia’s jailed ex-President Mikheil Saakashvili on social media.

Saakashvili noted that those believing they are eliminating a political opponent through an unjust “sentence” should remember that they could face the same fate tomorrow.

“The oligarchic regime plans to sentence me to 11 years in prison for expenses related to the visits of Donald Trump and other notable leaders to Georgia, wreaths for the funerals of Presidents Kaczynski and Václav Havel, and the purchase of jackets for official events.

So, for those who still deny the political nature of my imprisonment, perhaps it’s time to stop ignoring this injustice. To those who think this unjust ‘sentence’ neutralizes a political opponent, remember: tomorrow, it could happen to you,” Saakashvili wrote.
