GD’s Gorduladze: There is no anti-American government in Georgia, we commit to fair ties with all partners

“There is no anti-American government in Georgia, our government is committed to equal and fair relations with all partner countries and organizations,” Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Legal Affairs, Archil Gorduladze, responded to comments made by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio in the House of Representatives.

According to him, the question posed by Congressman Joe Wilson was provocative, leaving the U.S. Secretary of State with little choice in his response.

“As one might say, anyone who knows English and has access to Google can listen to the full statement, where Rubio said that if there is an anti-American government in any region, the U.S. will respond accordingly. The key question is whether Georgia has such a government—and the answer is clearly no,” Gorduladze stated.

He criticized Wilson, claiming the congressman had long expressed contempt toward Georgia, including through actions hostile to the country. Gorduladze reiterated that Georgia has a pro-Western government rooted in democratic values, sovereignty, and national dignity.

“This is exactly what Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze’s open letter and our team’s statements aimed to highlight. We are working to strengthen our strategic partnership with the U.S., taking steps to bring it to a qualitatively new level,” he noted.

Gorduladze also expressed disappointment with the silence from certain U.S. officials, asserting that the Georgian government remains open and transparent in its desire to build strong, respectful relations.

“We are ready for partnership and actively working—both publicly and behind closed doors—to achieve this. The open letter was part of that effort. Progress will depend on reciprocal steps from the American side to restore the trust that was damaged under the previous U.S. administration and ambassador, who were aligned with the so-called ‘Deep State’,” he added.

On May 21, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated: “The goal of the United States is our national interests. So, we will look at that and say, is it our national interest to have an anti-American government governing an important part of the world? And if not, we’ll take appropriate actions to impose costs on that government.”
