Legal Affairs Committee Chair: EU Bureaucracy undermines Georgian people's choice

“Nothing European is left in the EU bureaucracy,” said MP Archil Gorduladze, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Legal Affairs.

Archil Gorduladze remarked on the statement by Kaja Kallas, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, saying: “We are supporting the Georgian people, but not the Georgian government, which is taking things in the wrong direction.”

According to Gorduladze, such statements directly ruin democratic foundations.

“Nothing European is left in the EU bureaucracy, and these statements indicate that. Kaja Kallas says that people and their elected government exist separately. This undermines a fundamental principle on which Western civilisation stands and represents the basis of democracy, where people make decisions and elect their government.

Can she imagine that someone should be appointed from outside, with “government” written on the door, it will not work out that way. When such statements are made, it raises scepticism towards the European Union and the West, which is not our aim.

Similar statements disregard the Georgian people’s will. They undermine their choice, indicating that they know better than the Georgian people from outside who can be their government and who should be responsible for the country’s management. This is an example of interference, and that no international order exists anymore,” he said.
