GD Chair says "dark day" for radical opposition and linked forces

Irakli Kobakhidze, the chair of the ruling Georgian Dream, remarked on the developments at and inside parliament that followed the initiation of the so-called Foreign Agents bills by the People’s Power movement.

Alluding to the question regarding the US Embassy’s statement today that labelled the discussion of the bill on Transparency of Foreign Influence in the first reading by the parliament as a “dark day for Georgia’s democracy,” the GD Chair said, “it is a dark day solely for the radical opposition and the forces affiliated with it.”

“The radical opposition and its sympathizers have a dark day, as evidenced by the substance of the proposed bill. Today is a dark day solely for the radical opposition and the forces that support it,” Irakli Kobakhidze stated.

Georgian Parliament on Tuesday approved the proposed legislation On the Transparency of Foreign Influence in its first reading, followed by a street protest outside, where police fired water cannons and tear gas at demonstrators.
