PM: Moldovan government ready to give up its sovereignty; Specific forces opposing our country praise it
“It is inconceivable that one of the top officials in a country makes a statement on giving up sovereignty. The country’s leader should defend sovereignty, but you can see that things are different in Moldova,” Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze told reporters responding to the question regarding the Moldovan deputy prime minister’s statement.
According to the PM, the Georgian government upholds a different principle oriented toward strengthening sovereignty, and it is logical that specific forces opposing our country praise the Moldovan authorities.
“It is even impossible to perceive such a statement from a top official of a country, not to say anything in justification or holding serious discussion. It is inconceivable that one of the top officials of a country makes a statement on giving up sovereignty. The country’s leader should defend sovereignty, but you can see that things are different in Moldova.
The highest representatives of the government themselves are ready to give up the country’s sovereignty, and this is appreciated by specific forces that are precisely aimed at undermining the sovereignty of this or that country, which is absolutely logical. I find any such statement as inconceivable.
We hold to a different principle, which is oriented toward strengthening and defending sovereignty. Therefore, it is logical that specific forces opposing our country and the Georgian people praise the Moldovan authorities,” he said.
Moldova will consider reunification with neighbouring Romania if its path to EU membership is obstructed or blocked, Eugen Osmochescu, the country’s deputy prime minister, told Euractiv in an interview.
