Foreign Relations Chair: Georgia uses Geneva Forum to engage with distant countries
“The Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament, organized under the auspices of the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the United Nations, has opened in Geneva. Our delegation always uses this platform to engage with countries that are geographically distant from Georgia and with whom we do not have regular contact,” said Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Relations.
According to Samkharadze, the Georgian delegation uses these meetings to discuss both bilateral relations and Georgia’s policy of non-recognition.
“On the very first day of the visit, we met with the Speaker of the Slovak Parliament. We discussed bilateral relations and exchanged views on the internal political situations in both Georgia and Slovakia. We also addressed Slovakia’s support for Georgia’s European integration.
We expressed concern that, unfortunately, some EU countries are misinterpreting the situation in Georgia, which negatively affects the integration process. The conversation was cordial, and Slovakia reaffirmed its support for Georgia’s European aspirations. Our partnership will continue moving forward,” Samkharadze concluded.
