GWP warns of rising water levels in Aragvi River

Starting June 18, an increase in water flow in the Aragvi River is expected due to heavy rainfall in the Mtskheta-Mtianeti region and the resulting significant inflow of water into the Zhinvali Reservoir, according to a statement released by Georgian Water and Power (GWP).

The company said that, in addition to the naturally high precipitation, excess water discharged from the Zhinvali Reservoir will also enter the riverbed.

“During periods of high water levels, the operational conditions of the Zhinvali Reservoir are strictly regulated in accordance with the ‘Reservoir Operation Instructions’ to ensure the dam’s stability and compliance with safety standards.

We urge the public to exercise particular caution when traveling near the Aragvi River riverbed during this period,” the statement said.
