MP Samkharadze: We asked Luxembourg to support in resuming dialogue with EC, Georgia ready to discuss critical issues
“We have asked the Luxembourg side to raise the issue of resuming dialogue with Georgia with the European Commission. We are ready to discuss critical issues,” said Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Relations, during his visit to Luxembourg.
According to him, the Georgian parliamentary delegation raised a number of important issues during meetings held in Luxembourg, including the resumption of dialogue with the European Commission.
Samkharadze noted that Georgia is ready to continue dialogue in any format.
“We had a very interesting discussion with the chairs and members of the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committees of the Luxembourg Parliament on issues related to bilateral relations, security in our region, Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations, Georgia’s integration into the European Union, and economic progress.
Members of the Luxembourg Parliament had questions on these issues, and we provided comprehensive information about developments both in Georgia and in the region, Georgia’s role in the peace-building process, the challenges facing the South Caucasus, the challenges Georgia faces as a result of the Russian occupation, and the issues that exist between Georgia and the European Union.
We also asked the Luxembourg side to raise the issue of resuming dialogue with Georgia with the European Commission. The meeting was very productive. Today, we also held a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where we again asked for Luxembourg’s support in restarting dialogue with Georgia.
We are ready to resume dialogue in any format. We are also prepared to discuss critical issues, including the law that formally served as the reason for suspending dialogue between the EU and Georgia — I mean the Transparency Law.
In this regard, we believe that the Luxembourg side has approached our position quite constructively, and we hope that Luxembourg will support the resumption of dialogue with Georgia during discussions among EU member states,” Samkharadze said.
In addition, according to Samkharadze, a Luxembourg delegation will visit Tbilisi in the near future, while the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament is expected to visit Luxembourg in September.
