Foreign Relations Committee Chair sees unfair attitude of Brussels in inability to advance on European integration path by Georgia, North Macedonia

Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chair of the Georgian parliamentary Foreign Relations Committee, said that during the meeting with the President (Speaker/Chairman) of the Assembly of North Macedonia, Afrim Gashi, the sides reviewed the European integration process.

According to Samkharadze, the Georgian delegation members focused on Georgia-EU relations and the barriers.

“We exchanged information on Georgia-EU relations, the integration process and facing obstacles. The Speaker of the Assembly of North Macedonia shared the information about what is happening in their case.

Regrettably, North Macedonia, like Georgia, is not moving forward. There may be different reasons, but both countries are currently not advancing on the path of European integration, and we see an unfair attitude towards Georgia from Brussels behind this. It could be said that North Macedonia is also being unfairly oppressed,” he said.

The meeting was held in Istanbul on the sidelines of the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), where Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili is scheduled to deliver a speech.

The delegation, led by the Speaker, includes the Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, Nikoloz Samkharadze, and Chair of the Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee, Maia Bitadze.
