Ex-President Saakashvili stresses need for active political participation as Orbeliani Palace nears closure
Georgia’s jailed ex-President Mikheil Saakashvili shared a message on social media, emphasizing that people should understand that the political parties are actively working, and simply attending rallies or gathering at the Orbeliani Palace will not be enough, as this location will soon be closed.
Saakashvili highlighted the impressive self-organization of society.
“It is right that politicians are not overly involved in the process. However, this is ultimately a political process, and it is not enough to simply focus on the presence of many politicians at the rally.
The creation of a common information center is a positive step, but much more needs to be done. There must be closer public engagement alongside the rallies.
The fact that the police attacked four party offices at the Marriott and subsequently detained Gvaramia, entering the party offices, clearly demonstrates that the dictatorship fears this movement.
On the other hand, people should be aware at the rallies that the parties are actively working. Merely going to the Orbeliani Palace will not resolve the situation, as this gathering place will soon be closed as well,” he stated.
