European Energy Community to involve in dialogue over Namakhvani HPP
The Energy Community Dispute Resolution and Negotiation Centre will join the dialogue over Namakhvani HPP construction between the Georgian government and NGOs, Economy Ministry reported on Wednesday.
The government’s decision over European mediation will strengthen trust, and help to continue dialogue properly and effectively, Ministry underscored.
“Georgian government shows readiness to review all documents, surveys, and procedures in accordance with EU legislation if required,” Economy Ministry added.
The opponents of Namakhvani HPP construction have been holding rallies for about 6 months.
Georgian NGOs stressed a number of ‘shortcomings’ in the contract between Enka Renewables and the government. They claim the project implies understudied seismic and geological risks and force resettlement of some households.
