MIA to relocate protesters due to expected water level rise near Namakhvani

Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) will remove protesters’ tents and relocate them to safer place due to the expected water level rise near Namakhvani village in the western Imereti region, MIA reported on Sunday.

The Agency also said a search and rescue (SAR) operation continues for a Namakhvani HPP protester who entered the Rioni River on Saturday.

The Ministry urges citizens to obey the lawful request of law enforcement officers.

Protests against the Namakhvani HPP construction in the Rioni Valley have been underway for months now. Anti-HPP activists are concerned about the construction that could harm the environment.
