MIA officially confirms detention of Droa’s Elene Khoshtaria

The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has issued an official statement regarding the detention of Elene Khoshtaria, leader of the Droa opposition party.

According to the authorities, Khoshtaria is being held in connection with an incident involving damage to election banners supporting the Georgian Dream-Democratic Georgia candidate for Tbilisi mayor.

“Officers from the Ministry of Internal Affairs detained Elene Khoshtaria, born in 1979, on suspicion of property damage,” the statement reads.

The investigation alleges that on September 14 this year, Khoshtaria damaged the campaign banners of the Georgian Dream candidate on Melikishvili Avenue in Tbilisi.

The case is being examined under Article 187 of the Criminal Code, which pertains to the destruction or damage of property.

“The offence carries a penalty of up to five years’ imprisonment,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs stated.
