Migration Department detains 28 foreign nationals during special immigration control operation
As part of its efforts to combat illegal migration, staff from the Migration Department of Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) conducted a targeted immigration control operation.
According to the MIA, specific locations were checked based on gathered intelligence, as part of this initiative, aimed at identifying foreign nationals residing in Georgia without legal grounds.
“Following this operation, 28 foreign nationals have been detained. Among those apprehended are citizens of India, Iran, Sudan, Bangladesh, Nepal, Nigeria, Türkiye, Turkmenistan, Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, China, Kuwait, and Russia.
It has been established that the detained individuals were in the country in breach of the provisions outlined in Georgia’s Law ‘On the Legal Status of Foreigners and Stateless Persons’.
The detainees are currently held at the Migration Department’s temporary accommodation centre. Appropriate procedures are now underway for their expulsion from the country.
The Migration Department routinely conducts special immigration control operations to ensure the effective enforcement of Georgia’s Law ‘On the Legal Status of Foreigners and Stateless Persons,’” the Ministry of Internal Affairs states.
