Two people have been arrested on charges of illegally purchasing and possessing drugs as part of an ongoing investigation into the death of Daur Buava, Georgia’s Interior Ministry said.

Officers of the Vake-Saburtalo Main Division of the Tbilisi Police Department conducted searches at two residential properties in Tbilisi based on circumstances identified during the investigation.

According to the ministry, the searches resulted in the seizure of 10 packages containing different types of drugs, including marijuana and methadone, as evidence.

The investigation, including witness interviews, has established that both suspects were acquainted with Daur Buava and his female friend, who was arrested by police yesterday.

“Within the framework of the investigation, it has also been established that one of the individuals arrested on drug charges provided the female friend with a narcotic substance free of charge. She consumed the substance together with Daur Buava and subsequently left him in a life-threatening condition without seeking assistance,” the Interior Ministry said.

The ministry added that a foreign national was arrested on August 29 on charges of leaving a person in distress in connection with the investigation into Buava’s death.

Relevant investigative measures are continuing in the criminal case, according to the ministry.
