A rally in support of Mzia Amaglobeli, founder of Batumelebi and Netgazeti, is underway at the Batumi City Court.
Today, Amaglobeli faces trial on both criminal charges and an administrative offense. The judge is expected to hear testimony from defense witnesses.
First, the court will address the new administrative offense. As reported, Mzia Amaglobeli has been charged with a new administrative offense for pasting a sticker. Following this, the criminal case will resume.
“Mzia Amaglobeli is being tried for the second time over a sticker. We are living under a regime. This is something that happens in Russia—people being detained for stickers. Through such actions, they are trying to silence free and critical voices in the country,” said demonstrators gathered outside the court.
Amaglobeli was detained under Article 173 on charges of insulting police officers. The incident dates back to January 11, when she was initially held for one hour on administrative charges. Following her release, she was re-arrested on criminal charges, accused of slapping Batumi Police Chief Irakli Dgebuadze.
