Lawyer: Aza Chilachava, detained during yesterday’s rally, begins hunger strike at Dighomi detention centre
Aza Chilachava, who was detained yesterday amid protests, has started a hunger strike at the Dighomi temporary detention centre. Her lawyer, Lela Arevadze, shared this information on social media.
“It was a shocking sight to see them bringing in the elderly woman, and behind the bars, the inscription ‘Gagra’ can be read on her chest. Aza remains as fearless as ever. Despite numerous requests, Aza refused to alter her decision and started a hunger strike, without water,” Arevadze wrote.
The lawyer also confirmed that Chilachava had been transferred to the Dighomi detention centre.
Police arrested Aza Chilachava yesterday. According to available reports, she was detained for repeatedly blocking the road. There are also claims that several other individuals were detained at the rally. However, the Ministry of Internal Affairs has yet to release official information regarding the detainees.
